Why We Use 100% Soy Wax (and What That Actually Means for Your Home)
Not all candles are created equal, and the wax is where that difference starts. Here’s an honest look at why every Pacific Candle Co. candle is hand-poured using 100% soy wax — and why we believe it’s the only way we’d do it.
Soy Wax vs. Paraffin: The Real Difference
Paraffin wax is a byproduct of petroleum refining. When burned, it can release soot and compounds that many people prefer to keep out of their homes. Soy wax, on the other hand, is derived from soybean oil — a renewable, plant-based resource that burns cleaner and slower.
Cleaner Burn, Longer Life
Because soy wax has a lower melting point, it burns more slowly and evenly than paraffin, which means a longer-lasting candle overall. It’s also easier on your glass vessels and typically produces significantly less soot — so your candle jars (and your walls) stay cleaner over time.
Toxin-Free Isn’t a Marketing Word to Us
Our entire collection is vegan, cruelty-free, and phthalate-free — and always will be. Phthalates are synthetic compounds sometimes used in fragrance oils to help scent linger, but they’ve raised health concerns significant enough that we’ve chosen to formulate without them entirely. If you’re someone who reads ingredient labels on everything else in your home, we wanted our candles to hold up to that same scrutiny.
Hand-Poured, Not Mass-Produced
Every candle is poured by hand in our Huntington Beach studio, in small batches. That means more consistency, more quality control, and a level of care that’s simply not possible on a mass-production line.
What This Means for You
Practically speaking: a cleaner burn, a longer-lasting candle, and a home fragrance you don’t have to think twice about — even in a nursery, a kitchen, or a room where you spend hours at a time.
Our Take
Founder Halie Molino built Pacific Candle Co. on the idea that fragrance is an extension of you and your home — and that extension shouldn’t come with a trade-off. Clean ingredients were never negotiable.
